Most of my work happens at a desk. This one did not.
I travelled with a communications consultant to be on the ground for a Red Cross project, the first time I had been embedded in the field for a communications assignment. The consultant led the content and interviews. My role was everything else: photography, photo editing, report design and social media posts.
Being present with the communities we were documenting changed the work. The photographs were not stock images or staged shots. They were taken in real spaces with real people, and that responsibility sat differently. Every editorial decision about which image to use, how to crop, how to sequence, carried a weight it does not carry when you are working from a content folder sent by email.
The experience shaped how I approach editorial and documentation work. Proximity to the subject is not just a logistical detail. It is a design input.
